The Way of Wisdom: Proverbs 7

The writer continues to warn us in Proverbs 7. (Click on the link to read the verses.)

My son, keep my words
    and treasure up my commandments with you;
keep my commandments and live;
    keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
bind them on your fingers;
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
    and call insight your intimate friend,
to keep you from the forbidden woman,
    from the adulteress with her smooth words.

Proverbs 7:1-5

Let me put in my own words:

Sons and daughters, my child, keep my word. Gather them as treasure and carry them around in your purse or wallet. For these are life. Seek the Spirit’s teaching and treat it as you would your newborn child. Guard it. Protect it. Wear it like a wedding band on your finger, the symbol of our relationship. Write it on your heart.

Consider wisdom your sibling, and call insight your best friend forever.

When you do, my words will guard you against the temptations that quickly lead you astray. You will see the enemy’s trickery for what it is and will not be overtaken by deception.

Do you know the importance of seeking God’s teaching in His Word? Have you placed something before it in your life?

Perhaps you too will write these verses in your own words.

Lord, may the wisdom of Your Word be my greatest treasure.
