Outreach Ministry
Establishing relationships with families and friends of the community.
The Outreach Ministry’s goal is to establish relationships with the family (members) and friends of First United Methodist Church and the community.
This is a two-prong approach. Our desire is to offer support and love to homebound, nursing homes and assisted living situations. Hospital and hospice visits are also included.
The Shared Table is a nurturing ministry for members and friends of First UMC who could use a “hug” in the form of a home cooked meal. Each Friday afternoon a group of church members meet and cook a special meal which is then delivered to members of the church who are struggling with illness, grief, or some other difficult time. In come cases young families who are welcoming home a new baby find a Shared Table volunteer at their door with hot food just in time for the evening meal. Since its inception in October 2007 over 1680 deliveries have been made providing about 4032 meals to over 200 homes.
Our second phase of outreach is visitation and assimilation of visitors into our church. In the assimilation process, we provide information about the many opportunities for service in the church and Sunday school classes for adults, youth and young children. We have, also, developed a “Joining Service” which is a special time set aside for persons to join the church on a Sunday evening in a small group setting.
We wish to give each person a sense of belonging and connection to the church whether they attend or have a spiritual connection as circumstances no longer allow them to attend on a regular basis.
If you have questions, want to help with the outreach ministry, or want to share a need you are aware of, please call the church at (903) 586-2494.
