The mission committee has been a very active group at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Rev. Barbara Hugghins is the staff liaison for the Mission Work Area.  Missions is under the Go team which is led by Jerry Halpain & Bill Willeford. Areas in which a person can volunteer include:

• Soup Kitchen: we help serve at the HOPE Soup Kitchen 3 or 4 times a year. Bob Buckingham coordinates the volunteers for the weeks we serve.  Contact Bob through the church office;  903.586.2494.
• HOPE: Individuals volunteer at HOPE during the year and for special events.  Rev. Barbara Hugghins can put you in touch with this project.
• Disaster Action Team: We are now a Red Cross Shelter if the need arises.  More than 100 people have volunteered for this new team.
• Mission Trips:
  a. McCurdy School in Espanola New Mexico. Contact Jerry Halpain or Rev. Hugghins at 903 586-2494
  b. Sager Brown/UMCOR Depot – coming in January 2018.

Current Needs 

 Health Kits and Baby Layettes and School Kits are needed by UMCOR. Instructions can be found on the UMCOR Website.

• Heifer Project International
• Special Camp for mentally challenged adults
• St. Stephens Society in our local church –food pantry and financial assistance to those in need
