December 14

[Have you read the December 14 devotional from John Piper’s The Dawning of Indestructible Joy? If not, we suggest you read it before you continue.]

I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, and in order that the Gentiles might glorify for his mercy.

Romans 15:8-9

This is the meaning of Christmas. Oh, that God would waken your heart to your deep need for mercy as a sinner! And then ravish your heart with a great Savior, Jesus Christ. And then release your tongue to praise him and your hands to make his mercy shine in yours.

–John Piper, The Dawning of Indestructible Joy, page 50*

Are you aware of your need for a Savior?

Remember the mercy poured out on you when you were caught in sin.

How has God ravished your heart?

What words of praise have you spoken lately? Does mercy shine on others in your daily walk?

Thank You, Lord, for Your mercy. Thank You, for the moment You lifted me from my sin and redeemed me. You have reached down and taken over my soul. I love You, Lord! I sing a song of praise to You and ask You use me to shine Your mercy in my family, my work place, my neighborhood, my community, and the world. Amen.
